Abstract

1526246 Modulating light THOMSON-CSF 30 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974 13 Dec 1974] 45099/75 Heading G2F In a twisted nematic liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal film located between two glass plate electrodes, the elongated molecules of the film are given orientations parallel to the planes of the electrodes by depositing on each electrode a polymer of para-xylylene, methylmethacrylate, methylsiloxane or 3-(α, #-epoxy-γ-propoxy) -propyl-trimethoxysilane, or a copolymer of styrene and divinylbenzene, using one of the following methods: deposition by electric charge from the gas phaser, deposition by thermal effect from the gas phase, deposition by transfer of a homogeneous film to the electrode, followed by polymerization by heating, or deposition by drawing the electrode through a solution of the prepolymer, followed by polymerization by heating, the polymer deposit then being rubbed.
