Abstract
1526073 Succinic acid BP CHEMICALS Ltd 13 July 1976 [7 Aug 1975] 33012/75 Heading C2C Succinic acid is recovered from mixtures with adipic and glutanic acid by contacting with a liquid ester comprising ethyl, n-butyl or secbutyl acetate or a mixture thereof at 0-75‹ C. to precipitate a solid containing more than 70% w./w. succinic acid and separating the solid from the mixture. The mixture may be the waste acid from the oxidation of cyclohexanol/ cyclohexanone, or from the bottom of a column recovering acids from residues from the liquid phase oxidation of paraffins. The succinic acid may be separated by oxidation.
