Abstract
1525367 Cooling centrifuge rotors HERAEUS-CHRIST GmbH 18 March 1977 [19 March 1976] 11673/77 Heading B2P In a centrifuge having interchangeable rotors of differing configuration, e.g. as shown at 4 in Figs. 1 and 3, which rotate in a housing 1 communicating with the ambient atmosphere and which by their rotation generate a flow of cooling gaseous medium, e.g. air, through the housing, the latter is provided with inlet and outlet passages 8, 9 for the gaseous medium, the number, crosssection, size and/or shape of the inlet and/or outlet passage, being alterable to adjust the flow of cooling gaseous medium according to the configuration of the particular rotor being used. In Fig. 1, a flap 11 of thin springy sheet metal or resilient plastics is provided adjacent the inlet opening 8. When a rotor having a smooth outer surface, as shown, is used only a gentle suction is exerted on the flap which remains open. In contrast to this, when using, for example, a pivoting cup type centrifuge, Fig. 2 (not shown), a greater suction is exerted on the flap which flexes and seals the opening 8 allowing the cooling medium to pass only through an opening 12 of smaller cross-section in the flap. The size and/or shape of the opening 12 may be altered by an extended rotor shaft 3 projecting, as shown in Fig. 3, into that opening.
