Abstract

1524945 Heating yarns HEBERLEIN MASCHINENFABRIK AG 2 Feb 1977 [12 Feb 1976 26 April 1976] 04191/77 Heading D1F In a yarn or filament heating apparatus consisting of a cylindrical container I of heating fluid medium e.g. saturated steam through which the yarn e.g. of a polyamide or polyester passes axially, each end is sealed by a plunger 5 movable in fluid-tight manner (comparable with a piston) in a tubular extension 3 and also removable therefrom, as by means of a handle 6, to facilitate threading-up. The plunger comprises a longitudinal depression consisting of or including at least one groove 7 of U-cross-section generally of equal depth h and width b and along which the running yarn passes when entering and leaving the container with minimum escape of heating fluid. If the yarn is known to have enlarged portions or knots, or if the diameter will change e.g. during stretching, then the grooves are correspondingly larger and the effects of loss of heating fluid therefrom are minimised by recesses distributed along the length of the plunger at a determined distance from each other, extending transversely to the plunger axis and connected with the groove(s) whereby the pressure of heating fluid flowing along the groove(s) is reduced in step-wise manner. Such recesses may be constituted by cavities, annular grooves or openings in the form of segments of cylinders intersecting the depression, Figs. 4-9 (not shown).
