Abstract

1524389 Colour photographic diffusion transfer process AGFA-GEVAERT AG 29 Oct 1975 [5 Nov 1974] 44583/75 Heading G2C A colour photographic diffusion transfer process comprises (A) imagewise exposing a material comprising a support bearing a combination of (1) a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer of which at least 95 moles % of the silver halide is AgCl containing a first non-diffusible developing agent and (2) a light-sensitive layer of binder containing nuclei for physical development, at least one dye-giving compound which is coloured and which is not diffusible in the layer in which it is incorporated and second non-diffusible developing agent, which may be the non-diffusible dye-giving compound, which in its oxidized form can liberate diffusible dye from the non-diffusible dye-giving compound under the conditions of development, (B) developing using an alkaline processing liquid in the presenc of a silver halide solvent and catalytic quantities of a diffusible auxiliary developing agent to form an imagewise distribution of diffusible dye, (C) contacting with an image-receiving layer the lightsensitive material and (D) separating the imagereceiving layer and light-sensitive material after dye transfer. The first non-diffusible developing agent may be an o- or pdihydroxybenzene, p-aminophenol or ascorbic acid. The non-diffusible dye-giving compound may be of the type used in U.K. Patent 1321046. The second non-diffusible developing agent may be a p-phenylenediamine containing a primary amino group. The auxiliary developing agent may be p-methylaminophenol, 2, 4-diaminophenol, p-benzylaminophenol, hydroquinone, toluhydroquinone, phenylhydroquinone, 4-methylphenylhydroquinone or 1-phenyl -3- pyrazolidone. Multi-colour images may be produced using several light-sensitive materials and successive transfer on to the same image-receiving material. The invention also comprises a photosensitive material for use in the above process. Montage effects can be obtained by successive transfer of differently coloured images to the same image-receiving layer. The process can be used for producing advertising texts, maps, tables and graphs and for artistic purposes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1309133, 1321046 and 1442912.
