Joint-making packing.-To facilitate the attachment and removal of the cover of a vulcanizing- press, or similar vessel subjected to internal pressure, the joint-making packing is adapted to be raised from its seating by means operated from outside the vessel. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the packing C is carried by a ring D, which is slotted to engage levers E', pivoted to the cover at f and engaging pins g on a nut H travelling on a spindle I turned by a hand-wheel J. The spindle is packed where it passes through the cover and is formed with a collar engaging the cover.
