Abstract

152,199. Muller, E. Oct. 2, 1919. Explosives of the kind which are prepared by mixing ammonium nitrate and hydrocarbons, or hydrocarbon derivatives when both constituents are in the molten condition, are mixed under slight pressure, i.e from 0.5 to 1.0 atmosphere. The melting together is performed in an autoclave or digester, the safety-valve of which regulates the pressure. One example contains 94 per cent of ammonium nitrate, and 6 per cent of petroleum. Wood meal and alkali chlorides may be added.
