Changing apparatus; reel and endless-web apparatus.-Relates to signs, advertisements, &c. of the type in which two movable multi-coloured translucent screens in the form of an endless band or bands are caused to travel relatively to one another in parallel planes between the source of light and the sign to be illuminated so as to produce varied coloured effects, the screens being moved at different speeds in the same direction or at the same speeds in opposite directions. The screens d, d<1> are formed of open-square-mesh material which gives an iridescent and watered silk effect. The screens may be arranged round vertical or horizontal rollers e, f. The sign may have any number of illuminated sides, divided from one another by partitions i. The sides not illuminated are preferably painted dead black or coated with a non-reflecting material. The sign characters may be stencilled, or be transparent on an opaque background or opaque on a transparent background. When the bands are stationary the required effect will be obtained as the observer moves in front of the sign.
