Monogrammic signs.-In a changing sign consisting of superimposed perforated plates, one of which has a uniform field of similar holes and the other has holes so disposed that in any one position the registering holes in the two plates form a symbol or design, the plates being relatively movable so that in different positions different registrations occur, and show up by transmitted light as different lettering &c., the selector plate, Fig. 3, is constructed by pasting an opaque paper or like sheet on to a uniformly perforated plate, and punching out the required holes in the paper. Fig. 5 shows a sign built up of the superimposed plate elements, the uniformly perforated plates having flanges engaging guides whereby they can be adjusted by hand to display the desired symbols. Signs such as shown in Fig. 5 may be mounted around a rotary prism for display in turn at a window in a screen. Fig. 8 shows two coaxial cylinders, each having segments perforated so that superposition of each outer segment on each inner one forms a different symbol. The cylinders may be arranged in a row, Fig. 10. Alternatively, a single cylinder or prism may revolve behind a stationary uniformly perforated plate, which, when a prism is employed, is moved away momentarily at each movement of the prism. A diffusing or coloured sheet is disposed between the source of light and the plates, and in front of the plates a sheet of prismatic glass is adjustably arranged. The prismatic sheet may be stationary or may be rotated in its own plane. A uniformly perforated plate may be provided on each side of the selector plate.
