1519987 Vehicle seat support HALLAM SLEIGH & CHESTON Ltd 26 Oct 1976 [3 Sept 1975] 36255/75 Heading A4V A vehicle seat support comprises channels 30 connected by links 33 to base members 31 for vertical movement relative to the base members 31 against the opposition of torsion bars 36 which have radial arms 40 with pins 41 engaging cam slots 42 in a member 43 slidably mounted in one of the channels 30 and adjustable by rotation of a screw 45 engaging a nut 44 on the member 43 whereby the initial stress on the torsion bars 36 is varied. The links 33 have their lower ends pivotably and slidably connected to members 31 and are also connected to the members 31 by auxiliary links 34. Their upper ends are fixed to tubes 37 rotatably mounted in the channels 31, and the laminated square-sectioned torsion bars 36 extend within the tubes 37 and are fixed to one end of each respective tube and to the respective arm 40 at the other end. The member 43 has a scale for indicating the setting of the torsion bars. The auxiliary links 34 are connected to levers 52 loaded by tension springs 50 which are connected to a slide 68 of a seat-height adjustment means 53 comprising an adjustable stop 55 for limiting the upwards movement of the seat support channels 30 by acting on a cross-bar 35 interconnecting the lower ends of one pair of links 33. The stop 55 is movable by rotation of a screw 57 which engages a nut 59 fixed to a slide 60 carrying the stop 55, and rotation of the screw 57 also rotates a screw 65 to move the slide 68 so that the force of the springs 50 is kept substantially constant. A fixed stop bar 76 determines the maximum height to which the seat can be adjusted. The bottom ends of the links 33 are interconnected by bars 77 whereby the links move in unison.
