Abstract

1519249 Drawing boards AMERICAN HOSPITAL SUPPLY CORP 14 Oct 1976 [21 Oct 1975] 42632/76 Heading A4H A drafting table comprises a pair of horizontally spaced brackets mounted on a base for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis and a drafting board detachably secured to the brackets for pivoting therewith, whereby during assembly, one end of the board is lifted and slidingly supported on one of the brackets, and then the other end is lifted and slidingly supported on the other bracket. In one form, Figs. 1 and 3 brackets 16 mounted on a base cabinet or desk or telescoping base standards 14 each have a horizontal upper edge bearing surface 16c provided with an inverted T-shaped slot 20 and the board 12 has screw connectors 22 with enlarged heads (22b), and one connector 22 is slidingly supported on one surface 16c before the other end of the board is lifted and slidingly supported on the other surface 16c. When both connectors 22 have entered the slots 20, screws (25) are inserted through holes 21 in brackets 16 into openings 24 in the board 12, and all the screws (25), 22 are tightened. In another form, Fig. 8, the board 12' has hangers 30, 31, each hanger having a downwardly rearwardly projecting flange 30a, 31a providing bearing surfaces 30c, 31c, 30b, 31b on its underside and on its lower edge, at least flange 31a having a slot 34. During assembly, first hanger 30 is slidingly supported on a cleat 35b of one bracket 35, and then hanger 31 is slidingly supported on cleat 35b of the other bracket 35, surface 31b slidingly engaging top edge 35c of side panel 35d of the bracket 35, until the board is slid laterally until edge 35c enters slot 34 Fig. 9 (not shown). Cam elements, 37 on the board 12' are then pivoted to engage behind the brackets 35 (Fig. 9). The base may include a counter-balance torsion bar and the brackets may be retained at desired angular positions by lever controlled locking mechanism (17, 18), Fig. 5 (not shown).
