Abstract

1516561 Heat-treating alloys BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 1 June 1976 [3 June 1975] 22592/76 Heading C7A [Also in Division B3] The service life of a turbine blade &c. permanently elongated by mechanical and/or thermal stress but without superficial cracks is extended by subjecting the blade &c. to hot isostatic pressing. Permanent elongation is thereby reduced from Al to Cl, after which the blade may again be used. Further isostatic pressing may restore the blade after further service intervals t 2 , t 3 . Alloy blades of nickel, cobalt, ferritic steel and titanium alloy are specified which are subjected to pressures above 1000 bar at temperatures close to, but below, the temperatures above which grain growth occurs. In Example 1, a rejected blade is restored by subjecting it to isostatic pressures of 2000 bar for 2 hours at 1190‹C. Solution treatment for 2 hours at 1120‹C and air-cooling follows, then annealing for 24 hours at 845‹C and further air-cooling.
