Abstract

151,649. Motte, C. M. Sept. 29, 1919, [Convention date]. Frames.-Relates to a wheel and axle combination of the type in which a sleeve slidable vertically against the action of springs on guides fixed to the axle forms the bearing for the wheel. In one construction as applied to a cycle wheel, Fig. 1, the inner member b is formed in two parts connected by bolts and has two sockets j, k. The axle f carries a pin h adapted to pass through the socket j and provided with a head h<4> to retain a compression spring l, and also a tubular member i adapted to telescope in the socket k and forming therewith a chamber for a second compression spring m. The outer hub member a runs on bearings on the inner member and is formed in two parts connected in the mid plane of the wheel. The central parts of the outer hub member are formed so as to provide an annular casing for the inner parts. When used as a steering-wheel, the inner hub member is adapted to swivel on the guides h, i. In another construction, for heavy vehicles, the guides h, i are in the form of studs which pass through the inner hub member and carry leaf springs bearing on the outer surface thereof.
