Abstract

151,626. Zeiss, C., [Firm of]. Aug. 21, 1919, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Pendulum-weight apparatus; spring balances. -Relates to a weighing-balance wherein the goods pan is at the top and is supported from the peripheries of two rotary drums by means of at least three bands which do not lie in one plane. The invention consists in coupling the two drums together, for instance by a flexible band. The dimensions of the bands used are chosen so that when the balance is depressed the work done in bending certain bands round the drums is equal to the work freed by the other bands in unwinding. Tn the construction shown in Fig. 3, the pan i is supported at one side on two bands j<2> and is supported at the other side on a single band j<3>. The bands pass round drums k, Z, which are each suspended at the ends by bands m and are coupled together by a flexible band j<4>. A suspended weight o<2> co-operating with a curved arm n<2> on the roller k balances the load placed on the pan. A wire r<2> loosely suspended from the axis of the drum l operates an indicating pointer q<2>. In another construction, the drums are mounted on knife-edges and are spaced apart, a rack being carried by the band j<4> for operating an indicating pointer. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the goods pan is supported on a spring X and is steadied laterally by drums U<1>, D<2>. The drums are controlled by steel wires t<1>, v<2>, looped round the drums and connected respectively to rods t<2> and to guiding standards V'. Crossed wires V<1> pass round the two drums.
