Abstract

377,907. Weighing-apparatus. DAYTON SCALE CO., 468, Huffman Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Bryce, J. W. ; 160, Willard Avenue, Bloomfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Feb. 15, 1932, No. 4441. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1931. [Class 143.] Computing-apparatus ; Loose-weight apparatus.-A value-indicating weighing-scale comprises a load offsetting means operated from the load support through a selectively variable leverage means, with means for indicating the displacement of the load offsetting means to indicate the monetary value of the article at a selected price per unit weight, and capacity weight means, applicable to the load offsetting means upon the load offsetting side of the variable leverage means, for increasing the load offsetting capacity and thereby increasing the value capacity of the scale. As described in Specification 287,444, [Class 143, Weighing- apparatus], the load on the platform 10 is supported by a lever system including a series of levers 16, 17, the outer ends of which are permanently coupled to a U-shaped weight beam 18 connected by a flexible tape 22 and a segmental lever 24 to a weighing pendulum 26, the segmental lever also actuating by means of a rack 33, a weight-indicating drum 31. The inner ends of the levers 16, 17 may be lowered on to a value lever 20 in anv desired combination by the operation of a bank of price keys thereby varying the pull upon a value pendulum 25 operated through a flexible tape 21 and segmental lever 23, a computing drum 30 indicating monetary values being driven from the segmental lever 23 by a rack 28. In the present invention the weighing and computing capacities of the scale are increased by the provision of two series of capacity weights 35, 46 adapted to be lowered in appropriate combinations on to the segmental levers by means of cams rotated by external knobs co-operating with graduated dials. The rotations of the knobs, operating through gearing also set indicator drums 42, 51 arranged adjacent to the weight and value drums respectively. The indicator drums 42, 51 read in conjunction with the drums 31, 30 give the total weight and monetary value of the commodity.
