Abstract

1515849 Cable insulation BICC Ltd 12 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974] 41900/74 Heading H1A A supertension cable in which the dielectric is at least partly built from tapes of a polyethylene or polypropylene layer 12 bonded to at least one paper tape 13 is impregnated with a fluid consisting of a polydiorganosiloxamer with a viscosity >10 cs. at 25‹ C. and a selected hydrocarbon oil in proportions selected to produce, after exposure at 85%, a swelling of 3-4¢% of the laminate at a pressure of 0À5 MN/m.<SP>2</SP>. An experimental technique is given in the Specification. The paper layers of the tape are preferably <80 Ám. thick, preferably <50 Ám in the inner part of the dielectric, which may be built in steps, and may be loaded with aluminium oxide or similar materials. Preferred fluids are polydimethylsiloxamer and alkylated benzenes, particularly dodecyl benzene.
