1,045,527. High-voltage cables. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 2, 1965 [Aug. 6, 1964], No. 32042/64. Heading H1A. A high-voltage cable is insulated with polypropylene film wrapped round the conductor and impregnated with, for example, hydrocarbon oil, the film being embossed with transverse ridges before lapping to permit liquid flow between layers and pre-swollen to minimize swelling when the cable is operated at elevated temperatures. It may be prepared by passing it through a hot bath and removing excess liquid from its surface by snuggering, or by solvent or vapour degreasing. Alternatively it can be passed through a bath and then through a heated tube at such a speed that it picks up just enough liquid for complete absorption.
