Abstract

The invention provides a method of impregnating a cable core, comprising several conductors with associated insulation, with a water-impenetrable and water-repelling sealing material, the method comprising passing the cable core through a filling pipe which along its whole length forms a narrow annular space around the cable core, heating filling material and supplying it in a liquid state to the filling pipe at a point between the end thereof, and subsequently, surrounding the cable core with filling material in a semisolid state while displacing the peripheral layers of liquid fitting material thereby to form a stable outer layer for retaining the inner fitting material while in the still liquid state.
