Abstract

151,541. Lake, W. H. March 9, 1920. Valves, reversing and like.-In a valve of the kind comprising two hood-shape members separated by a partition adapted to occupy different water seals between multiple gas passages by raising, turning, and lowering the valve, the hoodshape members comprise two separate arched casings a, Fig. 1, supported on a skeleton frame which also carries a refractory lining for the casings. The frame carries an apron m which dips into a water seal in the pan k, and the partition p between the casings is trough-shaped and adapted to contain water, the level of which may be maintained constant by providing overflow pipes in the trough leading to the pan k through the apron m. To prevent the water in either of the sealing- troughs from being exposed to the gases when unoccupied by the partition p, arms t, such as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, may be attached to the inside of the hoods and may or may not rest on the sealing troughs. The arms are hollow and communicate with the water though at the bottom of the partition p.
