Abstract
354,621. Hydraulic mains. GAS CHAMBERS & COKE OVENS, Ltd. and BOWATER, N. J., Artillery House, Westminster. Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31555. [Class 55 (ii).] A seal pot for a gas offtake of a carbonizing retort, having an outlet at the bottom connected to a liquor main with an overflow weir maintaining a liquid level in the pot below a level sealing a gas inlet to the pot, is provided with means whereby alternatively, liquor in the pot has direct access to the liquor outlet or has access thereto only after overflowing at a level sealing the gas inlet. The seal pot is provided with a sleeve f suspended from a lever g and in its lowermost position is seated on a seating k at the liquor outlet d. Slots h in the top of the sleeve constitute an overflow at a height at which the liquid level submerges a partition plate j positioned between the gas inlet and outlet pipes, thus sealing the inlet a. This sealing is effected whilst the retort is being recharged. Liquor then overflows down the inside of the sleeve to the outlet. In the raised position of the sleeve, the liquor has direct access to the outlet. The latter is connected to a main common to several pots and the main is provided with an overflow weir.
