Abstract

1513182 Switching circuits INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER CORP 11 July 1975 29250/75 Heading H3T A switching circuit comprises light emitters 20, 21 optically coupled to respective light-sensitive semiconductor devices, one, 23, being a phototransistor, coupled to a power transistor 30 in Darling- ton configuration, and the other 40 being either in parallel (as shown in Fig. 2) or in series, Fig. 1 (not shown), with 23. When a pulse is applied to terminals 10, 1 LED 20 turns on photothyristor 40, supplying base drive to power transistor 30, so that power may be supplied from a source connected to terminal 14 to a load connected to terminal 16. Thyristor 40, and hence 30, remain on after the end of the switch-on pulse. When a pulse is applied to terminals 12, 13, LED 21 turns on phototransistor 23, which shorts the drive to thyristor 40. If the pulse applied to 12, 13 is long enough thyristor 40 turns off. After the end of this pulse 23 turns off, turning off 30. The circuit may be integrated.
