Abstract
1513072 Directional parachutes AERAZUR CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES 22 June 1976 [23 June 1975 12 March 1976] 25943/76 Heading B7G To avoid the need to rotate a parachute before translational movement in a chosen direction, the canopy is provided with openings angularly spaced around the canopy. Each opening is provided with a control line 8 for distorting the opening symmetrically about the axis III of the opening. Translational movement in any direction is achieved by pulling on the control line of one opening or by pulling differentially on the control lines of two adjacent openings (Fig. 5, not shown). The control line is connected to the two upper corners of the opening, but alternatively, the control line may extend from the apex of the canopy across the opening along its symmetrical axis. In the latter arrangement, each opening may be located between two adjacent gores with the control line constituted by a shroud line (11), Fig. 8 (not shown). The openings may be covered with nets, with the control lines attached to the nets.
