Abstract

151,297. Reggio, G. March 11, 1919. Circular machines; knitting stockings. To obtain a shaped effect at the knee, calf, heel, sole, and elsewhere by varying the size of the loops in the same course, using a splicing-thread with the longer loops if desired, the needlecylinder is moved up and down during the formation of each course by its supporting-tube G, which carries an incline F resting on a screw E at the lower end of a lever O suspended from a lever B resting on one of four cams on a cam shaft A. The lever B normally rests on a cam concentric with the shaft., but can be moved under the control of the pattern drum J to rest on any of three cams which are of suitable shape for making loops of gradually increasing lengths for the knee, calf, and heel respectively. To obtain a tapering effect below the calf, the movement imparted from one of the cams is modified by a pattern-controlled lever V connected to the lever 0 which gradually pushes the screw E along the surface of the incline F; there is thus a certain amount of lost motion and the position at which the tube G begins to be lifted by the lever 0 is varied.
