Abstract

1512525 Hopper Barges ISHIKAWAJIYAHARIYA JUKOGYO KK and TOKUSHU SHUNSETSU KK 14 Aug 1975 33929/75 Heading B7A In a vessel having a hopper 2 for dredged material, excess water in the hopper 2 is passed to a trough 1 from which it is discharged overboard via outlet passage 5 after a predetermined level has been reached in the trough. This ensures that air bubbles entrained in the water will be released and thus turbidity generated by the discharged water minimised. Water from the hopper 2 passes over a weir 3 and falls onto an inclined plate 4 in a first section of trough, passes beneath the plate 4, enters a second section of trough 1, and is discharged through passage 5 when a valve plate 7 is raised by actuator 8. The latter may be linked to a level sensor in trough 1 for automatic operation. Air bubble removal may be enhanced by blowing compressed air into perforated pipes located on the bottom of trough 1.
