Abstract

Refrigerators, domestic and like.-Relates to an appliance for keeping foods, beverages, &c. cool and more particularly to the type wherein an impervious container is cooled by a liquid held in and cooled by evaporation from a porous or semiporous and flexible casing, and consists in providing means for increasing the effective cooling- surface. This is effected by providing corrugated or other shaped material between or applied to either or both adjacent surfaces of the container and casing or by forming corrugations, grooves, &c. upon the outer surfaces or extending through the material of the container. The container B, as shown, is formed with depressions H and ridges J which provide spaces for the cooling- water and supports for the casing A. Feet G are provided on two sides to act as supports for the appliance which may be used as a liquid containing vessel, Fig. 1, or as a cupboard, Fig. 3. A tap F serves as a means for withdrawing the cooled liquid and also acts as a ventilator in the alternative position of the appliance. A hollow liquid-containing door or cover C is provided having an impervious back plate, a porous front, and a filling-hole J. A movable shelf D is also arranged within the container and is supported on projections E or E<1>.
