[Class 29.] In refrigerators of the kind in which heat is conducted from the space to be cooled by fins on the metal wall of an ice chamber, the ice is supported upon a shelf or shelves inclined so as to maintain the ice in contact with the wall, and a drain is provided for continuously discharging the melt water from the chamber. In a domestic refrigerator the ice is supported upon shelves 6 so as to contact with a finned metal wall 7 over which the air in the cabinet circulates. The melt water is discharged through a drain pipe 11. In a modification, the ice is supported upon a shelf 26, Fig. 6, the underside of which is provided with fins 8. Fig. 14 shows a liquid cooler having a cooling compartment 71 and an ice chamber 72. In a milk, &c. cooler, the milk flows over the fins 178, Fig. 18, and may be stored in a chamber 188. Fig. 22 shows a rail van having a central ice chamber, and a roof shield 219 to protect the van from the heat of the sun.
