Abstract

150,913. Collier, G. C. Oct. 23, 1919. Folding and coliapsible vehicles.-In a collapsible perambulator or like light vehicle, the seat portions 16 are hinged at 21 to the top of the well, and a collapsible undercarriage is mounted on the floor, which slides upwardly in the well so that the perambulator may be folded up to form a box as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The undercarriage comprises a pair of rocker bars 12 pivoted at 13 to the floor of the well and carrying depending fork stays 4 which are grooved to receive upwardly sliding stretcher bars 3. The bars 3 are connected to the wheel forks 11 by links 5, and are carried by the ends of spring stays 2 which are formed with central loops 8 connected to a handle 1. Passing through the loops 8 is a tube 9 containing a pair of rods 10 the ends of which are bent at right-angles and pass through the stays 4 and forks 11 so as to form a pivotal connexion 18 between the stays and forks. The perambulator is collapsed by drawing the handle 1 up through the floor. This causes the wheel forks to turn inwards on the pivots 18 and the stays 4 to swing towards one another so that the wheels are folded under the well. A further pull on the handle draws the floor with the folded undercarriage up in the well until the floor meets a bar 14 depending from hinged stays 15 connecting the seat portions 16, causing the latter to turn inwardly over the well about hinges 21. In the fully collapsed position, the handle 1 pro. jects above and rests on the meeting edges of the seat portions 16.
