Abstract

1508830 Mattresses &c OLIVELARK Ltd 17 Aug 1976 [20 Aug 1975] 34523/75 Heading A4M A mattress, cushion or like pad comprises an envelope formed by upper and lower, flexible, substantially inextensible panels 10, 12 united by a peripheral girdle 14, the envelope enclosing three superposed compartments 16, 18, 20, the first compartment 16 containing a flexible, thermally insulating material 17, e.g. foam plastics or glass fibre, the second 18 being filled with a liquid medium 26, and the third 20 being inflatable with gas, e.g. air, the third compartment 20 having its upper and lower walls 12, 13 and 28, 29 sealed to the upper and lower edges of the girdle and also to each other at one or more intermediate points over their surfaces. The liquid medium 26 may be a viscous gel, e.g. an aqueous solution of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, and may contain an anti-bacteria compound. The third compartment 20 may be sub-divided into 2 or more sub-compartments which may be separately inflatable through non-return valves 32 or which may be inter-connected through restricted air passages.
