A splint made from impervious flexible sheet material is formed to have one or more inflatable sections so arranged that, when the splint is secured around a limb and inflated, the limb is immobilized. In one example, forming a leg splint, two sheets of thermoplastic material 27, 28 are welded together around their edges and along intermediate lines 33a ... 33y so as to be divided into a series of communicating, longitudinally disposed inflatable chambers. Reinforcing strips 21, 22 carrying suitable hooks, are provided so that the splint can be wrapped around the limb and secured by lacing between the rows of hooks. The panel 23 extending beyond the strip 22 thus becomes compressed within the space across which the lacing extends so as to complete the enclosure of the limb. A lower extension, forming the panel 24, is folded forwards to provide a foot support. Splints for use on the arm and neck are also described.
