Abstract

1508384 Tube mills FIVES-CAIL BABCOCK 20 Feb 1976 06857/76 Heading B2A [Also in Divisions F2 and F4] A tubular grinding mill is supported by a device which includes a shoe 10 mounted on a frame by a part spherical member 13 which is located in a recess on the frame 15 the centre of curvature of the part spherical surface being at or adjacent the sliding surface of the shoe, and the ratio of the radius of curvature of the surface to the width of the shoe (measured in the direction of the axis of the mill) being between 0.35 and 0.50. The mill may have radial flanges 14 which engage the side faces of the shoe. The shoe is provided with an axially extending channel to which lubricant is fed. The channel has sloping sides 22 such that lubricant is fed from the channel to a groove 24 located at the junction of the flange with the mill when the flange abuts the side of the shoe. The side of the shoe may have pockets 19 to facilitate distribution of lubricant, and the arrangement is such that the lubricant flow may be redistributed to recentre the shoe between the flanges in the event of axial movement of the mill relative to the shoe.
