1358966 Open-end spindle bearings WILHELM STAHLECKER GmbH 10 March 1972 [17 March 1971] 11322/72 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] The shaft 2 of an open-end spinning rotor 1 is disposed within a wedge-shaped gap formed between at least one pair of supporting rollers 3, 5, 4, 6, and bears in its axial direction upon a thrust bearing 8, the shaft of at least one of the supporting rollers being inclined relative to the shaft 2, as seen in a direction transverse to the central longitudinal plane of the wedge-shaped gap and radially to the said shaft. The end pressure resulting from the angular contact between the said roller and the shaft 2 in operation maintains contact between the shaft 2 and the thrust bearing 8. The rollers have plastics covers. The shaft 2 may be rotated either directly by a belt 7, or by one or more of the supporting rollers, in which latter case it is held in the wedge-shaped gap by a resiliently-mounted pressure roller (Figure 4, not shown). The said inclination of the roller shafts may be adjustable, and the angle of inclination may be indicated on a scale (Figure 3, not shown). Conventional spring-pressed brakes are provided for stopping the shaft 2. In order to maintain end-pressure upon the thrust bearing during braking, helical grooves are provided in the surface of the shaft 2 in the areas contacted by the brake linings (Figure 5, not shown). In an alternative embodiment (Figure 6, not shown), the edge of one brake lining contacts a frusto conical surface provided by a ring secured to the shaft 2.
