Abstract
150,815. Bevan, S. P. June 7, 1919. Laminar springs. - A closing spring for the valves of engines, pumps, compressors, and other machines, and designed particularly for internalcombustion engines, comprises opposed blade springs g, g arranged at opposite sides of the valve spindle and in the direction of its length, and secured at one end to a block or washer f on the valve stem and at the other end to an abutment a on the easing or valve guide. In the form shown, three blade springs are used at each side, and the stationary abutment a is adjustable on the valve guide. The ends of the springs may be soldered, brazed or welded in slots in the members a, f. In modifications either the valve stem or the guide or both may be screw threaded so that either or both of the members a, f is adjustable, and a screwed valve stem may have a slot for a cotter so that a plain washer f can be used if desired.
