Abstract

150,613. Lindemuth, L. B. Jan. 27, 1920. Moulds.-A hot top 5 for an ingot and other mould 1 is made of sheet iron and becomes one with the casting on cooling. It may be made by bending round a former and the edges may overlap merely or be riveted at 12, spot welded or otherwise joined. A box 6 with a flange 9 to fit the mould is filled with insulating material such as dry sand 11 and this is prevented' from entering the mould by clay, asbestos, or other packing 13. A pouring-box 14 rests on the, box 6. The hot top may have a crimp a, Fig. 5, of any desired form, which reduces the section of the ingot at this point and thus facilitates cropping.
