Abstract

The grains of a powder of an oxide dispersion-free superalloy or components thereof are cold-densified. The densified powder is filled into a soft iron box and hot-isostatically pressed. The blank is then subjected to coarse-grain annealing at a temperature range between the recrystallisation temperature and the solidus line. Grain sizes of 1000 mu m diameter and more are achieved. The process is used in the fabrication of gas turbine blades.
