1504288 Knitting RIDLEY SPRIGGS & JOHNSON Ltd 30 June 1975 [12 June 1974] 30902/74 Heading D1K Seamless briefs are knitted in one piece on a circular hose machine and include a trunk portion 11 formed by rotary knitting, shaped front and back panels 14 and 15, 15a formed by either rotary or reciprocatory knitting with the back panel having a greater walewise extent to give greater fullness, a crotch portion 19 joining the two panels and being formed initially with an opening 21 which may be closed on or off the machine by a stocking toe-closing method and either leg openings (when the panels and crotch portion are formed by reciprocatory knitting) or leg opening sections (in the case of rotary knitting) adapted for slitting during or after knitting which extend in a walewise direction, the two panels and the crotch being shaped coursewise and/or walewise by variations in the stitch structure (e.g. tucking and floating) and, in the case of rotary knitting, by part coursing in the back panel. In the case of reciprocatory knitting, knitting of the front panel is delayed until a part of the back panel has been knitted. The leg openings are formed with turned welts.
