Abstract

1503598 Antenna THOMSON-CSF 8 April 1975 [9 April 1974] 14435/75 Heading H4A An antenna whose axis OA may be directed azimuthally and elevationally has a radiating system beam, the radiating system having a privileged plane defined by the antenna axis OA and a beam symmetry axis ab, this latter axis being rotated about the antenna axis in a plane Q perpendicular thereto according to a function of the azimuth G 0 and elevation S 0 of the antenna, the system allowing a beam scan up to 20 degrees on either side of the antenna axis OA in the privileged plane aOb. As described, the major symmetry axis ab and privileged plane are maintained tangential to the circle generated by a point A due to the roll of a ship, on which the antenna is mounted, about Ox by computer operations on azimuth G 0 and elevation S 0 angles of a satellite which angles are known from the ship's position and heading. The maintenance parameter is the computed angle #. In an embodiment the radiating system comprises a 7 x 7 array of phase controlled elements (Fig. 3, not shown). The scanning angle (r, Fig. 5, not shown) may be computed from a knowledge of the roll angle. For small pitch angles about Oy, beam axis ab can be oscillated by an angle related to the instantaneous roll to maintain the antenna axis in the privileged plane for no roll conditions.
