Abstract

Dwellings and rooms, arrangement and design of.-The rooms of a dwelling-house &c. are grouped round small door clearance spaces or lobbies a arranged at the meeting angles of the rooms, the usual long passages being dispensed with. Two, three or four rooms may be arranged round a single clearance space a and larger numbers of rooms may be grouped round several spaces a which communicate with a central hall or room as shown in Fig. 5. The building is supported by pylons, Fig. 1, consisting of four uprights c at the corners of the clearance spaces with doorways between each pair of uprights. Heavy pillars or columns are dispensed with. The rooms are preferably of equal dimensions made from identical units which are interchangeable so as to economise material and facilitate the addition or subtraction of rooms.
