Abstract
1502394 Grippers BOFORS AB 23 May 1975 [7 June 1974] 22973/75 Heading B8H [Also in Division B3] A blank transfer device for a forging machine comprises a movable frame connected to a pivotable arm 22 and carrying a buffer 8, 9 for bearing against the upper surface of a forging die and at least two claw members 3 which are movable under an edge of a blank lying on the die and which can be raised relative to the buffer 8, 9 to lift the blank from the die whereby the force required to free the blank from the die is transferred to the die by the buffer 8, 9. The pivotable arm 22 is provided with two pairs of gripping jaws 5-8 each provided with a blank gripping claw 3 which is movable upwardly against spring bias (28) (Fig. 5a, not shown), by jacks (27). The maximum span of each gripping jaw 5-8 is determined by an adjustable eccentric 17 and the jaws 5-8 of each pair are movable towards each other by an hydraulic cylinder 18. The forged blank, e.g. a crankshaft, is supported by the gripping claws 3 in recesses in plates 15. The arm 22 is vertically adjustable and pivotable in a horizontal plane relative to an arm 41 which is in turn pivotable about a column 40 by an hydraulic motor 44. In operation, the device is used to transfer a blank between a conveyer 37, a drop hammer 36 and a trimming press 38. The forging die at the drop hammer 36 is provided with recesses for accommodating the gripping claws 3, Fig. 4a, the movement of which may be initiated when contacts provided on two buffers 8, 9 contact the forging die.
