Abstract

1502304 Moving belt filter INDUSTRIEBERATUNGS AG 14 April 1975 15304/75 Heading BID Sewage sludge is dehydrated by distribution onto an ascending portion of an endless moving screening belt and is successively passed firstly through a straining zone on said ascending portion, secondly through a suction zone on a substantially horizontal portion of said belt and thirdly through a pressing zone which extends in the direction of travel of the belt and in which an increasing pressure is applied to the sludge. -In the apparatus shown diagrammatically the sludge is fed onto belt 18 and in zone 10 is dewatered by gravity filtration, in zone 12 the belt passes over the permeable supporting element 22 of the suction chamber 26 and finally in pressing zone 14 belt 18 is pressed between impermeable roller 20 and permeable pressure belt 30. In a second apparatus (not shown) the sludge leaving the pressing zone is subjected to shear forces in a calendering process to further dehydrate it.
