Abstract

1352672 Paper-making apparatus O BRAUNS 2 Nov 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 50636/72 Heading D2A During the formation of a web on a wire 6 from a suspension fed to the wire at 4 white water drained from the web is used to dilute the suspension entering at 1 and is also discharged at 20 onto the web, whereby fine material in the white water is returned to and retained by the web. The wire is supported on members 7, 9 which may be rollers, suction boxes or foils. The water discharged at 20 may be an inclined jet having substantially the speed of the wire or it may create turbulence in the web, and the water may be drained from and dischargedto the web at -any position along the wire including before or after the water line. The discharge means 20 may be movable along the wire, and white water collecting troughs may be insertable at different locations along the wire. White water fractions withdrawn from different parts of the system may be returned to different locations along the web, and two fractions may be returned to the same location. White water fractions may be deposited on the wire side of the web while the web is on a press felt subject to suction drainage. Substances for varying the chemical or structural properties of the web may be added to the white water discharged onto the web.
