Abstract

1395478 Rotary press for dewatering sludge REDERI AB NORDSTJERNAN 3 May 1973 [5 May 1972] 21080/73 Heading B1D Sewage sludge is dewatered by pressing between bands 4 and 6, of which at least band 6 is pervious and driven, the bands encircling at least part of an annular array of rollers 3 which is driven about axis 2 in the same direction as band 6 but faster. Hopper 9 delivers sludge between the bands, the solid fraction being received at 10 and the liquid at 11. Web 6 is wire mesh and web 4 may be impervious rubber or plastics or pervious felt or wire mesh. In the latter case liquid receiving means would be provided inside the roller array. The rollers 3 are freely rotatable between two end plates 1 or spiders. Web 4 may encircle the rollers closely or run round spaced roll(s) 5, and may be independently driven at a different speed from web 6. The tension of web 6 and the relative speeds of web 6 and the roller array are variable to control the pressure and duration and number of pressing or shearing actions applied to the sludge.
