Abstract

1501902 Continuous casting VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM WERKE AG 14 March 1975 [24 April 1974] 10852/75 Heading B3F Strip 12 is cast in a metal mould 4 with a plate 1 of asbestos and diatomaceous earth having an aperture for the entry of liquid metal, to be cooled by walls 6 and by direct contact with a counterflow of a mixture of water and air produced by air 7 drawn in at the mould outlet, by suction from a chamber 11, to entrain water at an orifice 8 from a pressure chamber 9 before entering the chamber 11. The mould may have a vertical instead of a horizontal cavity. The temperature of the cast strip 12 is controlled by varying the casting rate or by varying the volumes of cooling air and water.
