Abstract

150,182. Jarvis, O. Sept. 17, 1919. Locking nuts.-A nut 1 fitting a bolt 3 has the bore enlarged at one end to receive a filler 5 which is screwed to engage the bolt. The ledge 7 at the base of the enlargement is recessed to receive spring-controlled pivoted pawls 9 adapted to engage a groove in the bolt. About the pivot, each pawl has swellings 14, 15 to engage the wall of the recess and the bolt so that the pawl would be operative even if the pivot pin should fail. Holes 17 are provided in the nut through which tools can be inserted to hold the pawls out of engagement when it is desired to remove the nut.
