Abstract

1500383 Rotary lapping device SIEMENS AG 16 April 1975 [19 April 1974] 15760/75 Heading B8G A rotary lapping device, for applying elongate cover material around an elongate member as it moves longitudinally relative to the device, comprises a rotary carrier member for the cover material, a rotary flyer for unreeling cover material from the carrier, and a monitoring arrangement for monitoring the speeds of rotation of the carrier member and flyer comprising a first monitor coupled to the flyer for rotation therewith, a second monitor coupled with the carrier member for rotation therewith, and third and fourth monitors fixed in the device and cooperable with the first and second monitors for generating signals dependent on the speeds of the flyer and carrier member. As shown, flyer 11, 12, 13, 15 is rotated by gear 14 to unwind material 22 from supply 21 and wind it about a core running through the centre of the device. Supply 21 is mounted on member 20 rotated by flyer member 15 via permanent magnet 16 and disc 25. The radial teeth of rotating gear 14, and of gear 26 rotating with member 20, produce a pulse-wire variation of magnetic flux in fixed sensors 31, 32 which include permanent magnets, and the sensors transmit pulsed electric signals which are counted in separate counters. After a predetermined number of pulses the counters transmit signals which are compared. If the signals correspond the flyer and member 20 are rotating at the same speed and the device is working incorrectly, and a signal is transmitted to stop the winding or to trigger an optic or acoustic signal. Alternatively, the sensors 31, 32 may be opto-electrical transducers and the gear-wheels replaced by perforated or toothed discs, e.g. the discs having the same number of teeth or perforations.
