Abstract

[Also in Division G1] Apparatus for measuring the speed of rotation or amount of rotation of the rotor of an electric motor or generator comprises a magnetic flux variation detecting element 8 bonded to a polepiece 5 of the stator, the element 8 being smaller in the circumferential direction than the windings 4 or teeth 2 of the rotor 1. The element 8 may be a hall element or a conductive loop (b) or (c), Fig. 2 (not shown). For high speeds of rotation, the number of pulses from element 8 in a given time are counted. For low speeds of rotation, the number of clock pulses from a generator between two pulses from the element 8 may be counted.
