Abstract

Moulds.-A machine for moulding one or more bricks, blocks, slabs, &c. at a time from concrete or clay comprises a bed-plate 2, Figs. 3 and 4, supported on frames 1 and carrying front and back mould plates 4 hinged at 6 and held in their vertical position by hinged links 14. The bed-plate 2 is slotted at 13 and carries a main pallet plate 7 and secondary pallet plates 10 which rest in recesses formed between ribs 9 on the longitudinal side members of the main pallet plate. Gaps or slots are formed between the pallet plates 10 coinciding with the slots 13 in the bed-plate 2, and serve for the passage of division plates 20 into the mould. The division plates 20 are supported by arms 21 upon a shaft 22 carrying a counterweight 23, and are secured together by a channel plate 24. Hand levers 25 secured to the two end-plates serve to raise and lower the division plates 20. The inner faces of the mould plates 4 are recessed to receive the division plates 20 which are held in position in the mould by hinged scotches 26 mounted on the frame 1. When a single block is to be moulded, all the division plates 20, with the exception of the two end-plates, are disconnected from the shaft 22, and the small pallet plates 10 are replaced by a single pallet plate such as shown in Fig. 6. The plates 4 are replaced by plates having recesses to receive the two end-plates and, if desired, the inside of the plates may be provided with matrices for forming grooves &c. in the surface of the block. When it is desired to form hollow blocks, the plates 4 are provided with holes for the insertion of cores.
