Abstract

12,452. Allison, C. A., [Ideal Concrete Machinery Co.]. May 29. Moulding concrete building-blocks.-A concrete building-block is moulded face downwards in a mould comprising a front 9 hinged to the table 2 and carrying hinged ends 11. The rear side 14 is separately hinged to the table 2 and is provided with apertures for supporting-cores 7, which are guided by rods 6 passing through adjustable bearings 5. A removable facing-plate 19, resting upon the bottom of the mould, is provided with holes engaging with pins 18 on the front plate. In use, the mould is closed as shown in Fig. 1, the rear and ends being held together by means of lugs 20 and by catches 23. A layer of fine concrete is placed upon the bottom of the mould and covered with coarse concrete up to the level of the cores, which are then advanced into position by means of links 24, 25 carried by a shaft 26 operated by a lever 27, the mould being then filled up with the coarse concrete well rammed. The block may be finished with a layer of fine concrete, or it may be made homogeneous. The cores are then withdrawn and the mould is opened about the hinges 10, a lug 8 on the plate 2 supporting the front 9 on which the block rests. The ends 11 are then swung downwards on to the lugs 13, leaving the block free so that it can be removed on the pallet 17 to the drying shed. The links 25 and the bearings 5 are adjustable so that different side and end plates may be employed to form blocks of various sizes.
