Abstract

120,735. Obry, V. P. H. I. W. d'. Nov. 5, 1917, [Convention date]. Stationary-mould machines; moulds.-A press for moulding bricks, blocks, &c., such as described in Specification 120,425, [Class 87 (i), Bricks &c.], comprises a mould bottom, an open mould frame carried by rods r, Fig. 17, cores m suspended on rods z from a cross-head t, and an upper die member carried by rods v connected to a cross-head x. The mould bottom is fitted with longitudinal and transverse metal laths or slats b, c, Fig- 1, halved together, to form grooves in the base of the block, and is provided with apertures a communicating with air admission ducts in the base block p, Fig. 17, these apertures being closed by tapered plugs n on the cores m during the moulding operation. The mould frame has lugs d, Fig. 5, with holes c to receive the rods r, Fig. 17, which are secured by cotters o, and the bottom of the frame is recessed to fit over the laths on the mould bottom. Holes f in the ends of the mould allow escape of air and surplus material. Fig. 9 shows the die member which has guide-lugs i to engage the rods r, Fig. 17, and is formed with recesses k. Fig. 9, to farm ribs on the block; the recesses k are preferably formed on a grid secured to the die member. In use, the cores m and mould frame are lowered on to the bottom plate as shown in Fig. 17, and concrete is introduced, with or without a reinforcement, and compressed by the die member. After moulding, the cross-head t is raised, lifting the cores m. As the cross-head rises, it engages nuts u on the rods r and raises the mould frame and finally engages supports y on the cross-head x and raises the die member, leaving the block on the mould bottom ready for removal for drying The cores m and the grid on the die member are interchangeable ; also any of the cores may be raised und a filler block inserted into the mould to form blocks of different dimensions.
