Abstract

1499531 Adjusting turbomachine guide vanes DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 24 May 1976 [11 March 1975] 10151/75 Headings F1C and FIT Guide vanes 29 of an axial flow machine, e.g. a compressor or gas turbine, are angularly adjustable by a ring 18 rotatably surrounding the machine casing 12 on a bearing 19 and connected to a driving pulley 24 by a continuous belt 23. The latter may be a stranded wire completely surrounding the ring 18 as well as each of two pulleys. Alternatively it may be a chain engaging sprocket teeth. Several pulleys 24 of differing diameter each controlling a different stator stage may be mounted on a common shaft 25 driven by motors (26), Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). Each of the latter is spring-loaded in a support (27) away from casing 12 and may be hydraulic, pneumatic or of electric stepper or pulse type controlled by digital electronic means. Bearing 19 may be of ball, roller or plain type, the latter including circumferentially spaced segments (35) having anti-friction surfaces (36).
