Abstract

1499224 Securing thermal insulation J JARVINEN 27 July 1976 [16 March 1976] 31163/76 Headings F2H and F2X Resilient thermal insulation 5, e.g. a mineral wool mat, is secured to a base 6 by screws or nails 3 each having its head slidably housed in a tubular shank 2 projecting from a washer 1 so that if the top surface of the insulation is depressed, e.g. by a person walking thereon, the washer moves downwards with the top surface to take up the depression without disturbing the screw or nail 3 or damaging the insulation. In a roof installation shown, the insulation 5 is covered with a layer of roofing felt 7. The washer 1 is of plastics material and its shank 2* has a tapered sharp-edged tip 4 to facilitate penetration into the insulation. The screw or nail head normally bears on an internal shoulder of the shank 2.
